Boris Skalsky is a composer, songwriter, and recording artist whose career has moved between bands, solo projects, contemporary classical music, and work for film and television. After studying composition at the Manhattan School of Music, he spent much of his early career in DC and New York, co-founding the band Phaser and later forming Dead Heart Bloom, while continuing to write concert music and pursue his own recordings.

Beyond the ambient rock of Dead Heart Bloom and Phaser, his work spans solo acoustic records, chamber music, orchestral writing, and experimental electronics. As a screen composer, his music has appeared across network television, cable, streaming, and independent film, including the award-winning documentary Fading Portraits. His recordings have also been featured by Rolling Stone and NPR.

Across these different projects, Skalsky has remained as interested in writing a three-minute song as in building a score or composing a piece for the concert hall. His latest releases are a series of ambient instrumental works and the LP Dream States from Dead Heart Bloom.
